We had so much fun making this Christmas Sensory Bin! It was an easy sensory bin that kept my toddler busy for quite a while. Not only that, this sensory bin was easy a put together, and I got a nice cup of Starbucks coffee out of the deal!

To make the Christmas sensory bin with the Starbucks cups, head to Starbucks, go inside to order a coffee or treat and ask the barista very nicely for a couple of kids-sized cups or pup cups. They are usually nice about it. Make sure you tip a buck or two.
Christmas Sensory Bin-Supplies
- Sensory box. I had purchased a sensory kit, and I reuse the box for basically every holiday I do a new sensory bin. I am so glad I bought it because it’s the best size for sensory bins. Plus, the accessories and the moon sand are fun for your toddler until you swap a new theme.
- For the base, we used a store-brand cocoa puff cereal. Walmart has a large bag as well as supermarkets. If you can’t find a store brand, the brand name works just as great.
- If you don’t want to use cereal, I always recommend the CoolSand brand, “moon sand.” It’s the best indoor sand thus far I have found. I love it and recommend it for any sensory bin or a fun toddler activity.
- If you are doing a water bead sensory bin, blue and white water beads would be pretty cool for a winter sensory tray.
- Miniature marshmallows if you are doing a hot cocoa sensory bin.
- Holiday plastic cups, candy dishes. You can find some at Target, Walmart dollar spot, or Hobby Lobby has tons of small holiday items for your Christmas sensory box to get creative with.
- Candy canes, holiday candies such as dots, gumballs, Hershey Kisses, etc. (depending on your child’s age).
- Sensory tongs and/or tweezers. We have these super cute hand tongs that are fun for any sensory bin and come in several different colors for each holiday. These will come in handy for your next sensory bin and are worth the small investment.
- You can include things like Christmas lights, fake snow, and ornaments. Get creative!
- Fake crushed ice rocks
- Winter Woodland animal collection
- Christmas Slime Charms. These are our very favorite items for toddler sensory bins; they are adorable.
Let your toddler explore, scoop, pour, and scoop again to their heart’s content. Not only is this a fun activity, but it’s also a great way to develop fine motor skills.
Have your toddler serve you up a “hot chocolate” and play barista. You could also set some cups up with post-its with numbers on them. Your toddler can use the tongs to add marshmallows or cocoa puffs to add the corresponding number to the cups.
