London With Kids: The Family Hotel Guide I Wish Existed (Best Areas + Where to Stay)

(Plus a simple itinerary + neighborhood guide you can actually use)

My first trip to London with my two children, I learned a few things. A few hard lessons. We are heading to London for spring break for our third trip, and I have always found it impossible to find a hotel room that fits three of us.

I noticed widely across the UK, rooms have king beds but say they fit three people, or two twins, which say four people.

If you have kids or kids far apart in age, like my son being 14, he is not going to sleep in a king bed with his sister and me.

Or you may have wild sleepers, or kids who fight constantly, or who will not share a bed. Maybe YOU don’t want to share a bed with your kids.

I promise you, I get it.

Its hard enough to travel with kids, you need a nice night’s sleep at least.

London is one of the best cities in the world to do with kids… but finding a hotel that truly works for families?

That’s the hard part.

I have worked my bum off finding hotels in London that are great for families wanting their own sleeping space, or that do not want to share a twin with someone else.

Rooms run small, “family friendly” often means two twin beds, and it can feel impossible to find two real beds (not twins) unless you’re willing to book two rooms or go full luxury.

Even at full luxury, I have found they generally only accommodate two people.

This is the London family hotel guide I wish existed my first trip: a curated list of budget to five-star stays, including hotels with connecting rooms, rare two-queen options, apartment-style stays for bigger families, and places that make sightseeing easier—not harder.

Best Areas To Stay in London With Kids (By Vibe + Convenience)

South Bank (Best for First-Time Families + Iconic Sights)

If you want a London trip where you can walk to major attractions without constant Tube transfers, South Bank is the move. It’s stroller-friendly, full of riverside space, and packed with kid-approved stops like the London Eye, SEA LIFE Aquarium, and easy pedestrian bridges into Westminster.

Westminster & St. James’s (Best for Classic London Sightseeing)

This is the “we’re doing London” area—Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and the postcard moments. It’s convenient but busy, so hotels with soundproofing and smooth service matter more here.

Bankside (Best for Walkability + Food + Easy Days)

Bankside is a great family base if you want a slightly calmer London experience that still feels central. Tate Modern, Borough Market, and riverside wandering make this area easy and fun with kids.

Chelsea & South Kensington (Best for Museums + Quieter Nights)

This is a classic family-friendly zone: pretty streets, parks, and the kind of calm that’s a relief after busy sightseeing days. It’s a great pick if you’re traveling with younger kids or want a more residential feel.

King’s Cross / St. Pancras (Best for Trains + Day Trips)

Not the most “storybook London” area, but it’s one of the most practical—especially if you’re arriving by train, planning day trips, or want quick transit access that won’t drain your energy.

Budget Family Hotels in London (That Actually Work)

Premier Inn London St Pancras

If you’re trying to find a budget hotel in London that actually works for families, Premier Inn London St Pancras is one of the easiest wins—especially when you need more than one real bed.

Some room options include 1 Double Bed + 2 Twin Beds, which is a huge deal in London, where family rooms can be surprisingly limited.

It’s just steps from King’s Cross & St Pancras International, which makes getting around London with kids dramatically simpler. Rooms are straightforward and comfortable (clean, quiet, and practical), making it a smart base when you’d rather spend your budget on experiences than your room.

Best for: value, transport ease, family room setups
